Southern Africa’s Highest & Heaviest Mobile Pallet Racking System for QK Meats
High-Capacity Mobile Pallet Racking Engineered for Extreme Loads
When QK Meats needed to significantly increase storage capacity while handling exceptionally heavy pallet loads, the company turned to Logistics Systems Engineering (LSE) to design a storage solution capable of pushing the limits of mobile pallet racking technology.
The result is Southern Africa’s Highest and Heaviest mobile pallet racking system, a record-setting installation engineered to combine extreme load capacity, unprecedented height, and operational flexibility.
Completed in just four weeks from delivery, the project transformed QK Meats’ storage capabilities through a powerful hybrid configuration of mobile and static pallet racking, optimising 26,000 m³ of storage volume while maintaining full safety compliance with EN 15095 and EN 15512 standards.
About QK Meats
QK Meats operates in the meat processing and cold storage industry, where efficient, high-density storage solutions are critical for maintaining product flow and inventory control.
As production volumes increased, the company required a warehouse storage system capable of handling extremely heavy pallet loads, supporting multiple pallet configurations depending on seasonal demand, and maximising cubic storage capacity within the existing building footprint.
To achieve these goals, QK Meats partnered with Logistics Systems Engineering (LSE), specialists in high-density warehouse storage and advanced mobile pallet racking systems.
The Challenge: Storing Extreme Loads at Unprecedented Height
QK Meats required a racking solution that could deliver far more than conventional pallet racking systems.
The new installation needed to:
- Support exceptionally heavy pallet loads
- Reach unprecedented racking heights while maintaining structural safety
- Provide flexibility for multiple pallet configurations depending on seasonal and customer requirements
- Optimise cubic storage capacity within the available warehouse footprint
- Deliver a robust system capable of supporting long-term operational growth
- Be installed within a highly compressed project schedule
In addition, the system had to comply with strict European structural and safety standards, ensuring long-term reliability under extreme loads.
The Solution: Hybrid Mobile and Static Pallet Racking
To meet these requirements, LSE engineered and installed a bespoke hybrid racking system combining the advantages of both mobile and static pallet racking.
LSE’s Mobile Pallet Racking (MovoRack) allows racks to move laterally along embedded rails, opening only the aisle required for forklift access. This eliminates unnecessary aisles and significantly increases storage density.
The integration of static conventional pallet racking provides additional structural stability and operational flexibility, enabling the system to accommodate multiple pallet configurations depending on the customer or season.
The result is a powerful storage system capable of handling extreme loads while maximising available warehouse volume.

Engineering Excellence & Compliance
This installation represents a significant engineering milestone for the region.
The QK Meats system is the first EN 15095 and EN 15512 compliant mobile pallet racking installation (MovoRack) in Southern Africa to reach a height of 16,000 mm, demonstrating LSE’s ability to engineer storage solutions that meet international safety and structural standards.
All mobile equipment was fully galvanised, providing exceptional durability, corrosion resistance, and reliability for demanding cold storage environments.
The system was also designed to support three pallet configurations, enabling QK Meats to adapt storage layouts depending on seasonal production volumes and customer requirements.
Rapid Project Execution
Despite the scale and complexity of the installation, the QK Meats project was completed in an accelerated timeframe.
Through detailed engineering planning, coordinated logistics, and a highly experienced installation team, LSE successfully completed the project within four weeks from delivery.
A time-lapse of the installation captures the transformation of the facility as mobile bases, racking structures, and control systems were assembled into one of the most powerful mobile pallet racking (MovoRack) installations in the region.
