Mobile Racking Installation for One of South Africa’s Most Advanced Fruit Export Terminals – SAFT
Engineering High-Density Storage for a Modern Fruit Export Facility
When SAFT — one of South Africa’s most advanced fruit export terminals in the Western Cape — required a high-density storage solution capable of supporting large volumes of fresh produce, the company partnered with Logistics Systems Engineering (LSE) to deliver a mobile pallet racking system engineered for safety, precision, and long-term operational performance.
The project incorporated LSE’s advanced mobile racking (MovoRack) system, designed and engineered in accordance with strict European EN standards, ensuring superior structural integrity, installation precision, and operational safety.
Through detailed engineering, careful project management, and rapid installation, LSE successfully delivered a high-performance mobile racking installation within the customer’s demanding operational environment
About SAFT
SAFT operates one of the most advanced fruit export terminals in South Africa, supporting the storage and movement of fresh produce destined for international markets.
Fruit export facilities require highly efficient warehouse storage solutions capable of maintaining product flow, supporting seasonal demand fluctuations, and ensuring reliable storage infrastructure that can operate under demanding conditions.
To meet these requirements, SAFT required a high-density mobile pallet racking system engineered to international standards and installed with precision.
The Challenge: Delivering Precision-Engineered Mobile Racking
The SAFT facility required a storage solution capable of meeting several key operational requirements:
- Maximising storage density within the available warehouse footprint
- Ensuring high levels of operational safety
- Providing a system engineered and installed according to international EN standards
- Supporting efficient forklift access and product handling
- Delivering a rapid installation within an active operational environment
In addition, the system needed to support large pallet loads while maintaining structural reliability across multiple storage chambers.
The Solution: EN-Compliant Mobile Pallet Racking (MovoRack) Engineered by LSE
To meet these requirements, LSE designed and installed a high-density mobile pallet racking (MovoRack) system engineered in accordance with the EN 15095 standard, which governs the structural and operational requirements of mobile racking systems.
LSE’s MovoRack operates on precision-installed rails embedded in the warehouse floor, allowing the racking units to move laterally and open only the required working aisle.
This design eliminates unnecessary aisles and maximises storage capacity while maintaining direct pallet accessibility and operational safety.

Engineering Excellence: EN-Standard Design and Installation
The SAFT installation represents one of the few mobile racking rail systems in South Africa designed, engineered, and installed according to the strict EN 15095 standard.
This standard ensures that mobile racking systems achieve the highest levels of:
- Structural safety
- Operational reliability
- Long-term durability
The system also complies with EN 15620 and EN 15629, which govern installation tolerances and structural assembly standards for warehouse racking systems.
These standards ensure that the system maintains precise alignment and safe operation throughout its lifespan.
High-Capacity Mobile Trolley System
The installation utilised advanced pre-galvanised mobile trolley bases, each engineered to support loads of up to 30 tons per bay.
These mobile bases are designed to provide exceptional structural strength while allowing smooth and reliable movement along the embedded rail system.
The use of pre-galvanised equipment also provides long-term corrosion resistance and durability within demanding warehouse environments.
Project Execution: Precision Installation Across Multiple Chambers
The project was delivered through a carefully coordinated installation process across four storage chambers.
Phase 1 – Rail Installation
LSE’s mobile racking rails were installed within the warehouse floor structure, ensuring precise alignment and structural stability. Once the floors were cast and cured, the rail system formed the foundation for the mobile racking installation.
Phase 2 – Mobile Trolley Installation
Pre-galvanised mobile trolley bases were installed within the first chamber, providing the structural platform for the racking system.
Phase 3 – Racking Installation
Following the installation of the mobile bases, racking structures were installed and assembled according to the EN 15620 and EN 15629 installation standards.
Installation progressed in parallel across multiple chambers to optimise project delivery timelines.
Phase 4 – Electrical and Control System Installation
The installation then progressed to the electrical and control systems phase, where the control gear and automation components were installed and integrated with the mobile racking system.
Through strict project management methodologies and highly skilled installation teams, LSE ensured that installation speed was balanced with the company’s commitment to safety and quality.
Results: A High-Performance Mobile Racking (MovoRack) System
The completed SAFT installation delivered several key benefits:
- High-density pallet storage within a limited warehouse footprint
- Mobile racking engineered according to EN 15095 structural standards
- Installation performed according to EN 15620 and EN 15629 tolerances
- Mobile bases capable of supporting loads of up to 30 tons per bay
- Precision installation across multiple storage chambers
- Rapid project execution within an active operational environment
Customer Handover
